When you add aftermarket products to your car (intake, exhaust, cams, forced induction, nitrous, etc.) the fuel supply provided by your stock computer isn't enough to make full use of the parts you put on, causing a lean condition (not enough fuel). This can lead to detonation, and in extreme cases, engine failure. The Pivot ACS-R Air Flow Controller overides the factory settings and allows you to bring your engine into it's optimal, safe, operating range. In the extreme opposite, the engine may run too rich. This can foul out spark plugs, destroy catalytic converters, and causes the engine to bog down.
